Dr. Derelian is a professor and past head of the department of food science and nutrition at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, where she has spent over 15 years educating the next generation of nutrition professionals.

Dr. Derelian was previously the President of Health Professions Training, a company dedicated to the education of healthcare professionals about patient/client teaching as well as consultation on the development of materials to support non-traditional instruction.

As an established expert on teaching and learning, Dr. Derelian has consulted with corporations, universities, government agencies, national and local dietetic associations, and numerous medical, scientific, food, and health organizations.

Her research interests include breakfast intake and classroom achievement; patient/client testing protocols and evaluation; career choices by college freshmen; and successful leadership skills including time management.

An Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics member since 1969, Dr. Derelian was the Academy’s President in 1994-1996. In 2017 Dr. Derelian was the recipient of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ highest honor, the Marjorie Hulsizer Copher Award. As a consultant, her programs won national awards and special recognitions. Dr. Derelian is listed in Whos Who of American Women and was signified by the California Dietetic Association as an Outstanding Member as well as given their highest honor: the Delores Nyhus Memorial Award. She is a charter Fellow of the Academy and recipient of its premiere lectureship recognition, the Lenna Francis Cooper Memorial Award. She is past Chair of the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Dr. Derelian completed a Juris Doctor degree from UC, Davis, School of Law in 2001, utilizing this expertise for consultative and academic inquiries.
