Emily Patten was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. She completed her bachelors and masters degrees at Brigham Young University-Provo. Patten worked for Intermountain Healthcare (a Utah-based healthcare system) for several years before completing her doctoral work at Kansas State University. Patten currently is an assistant professor at Brigham Young University where she teaches primarily dietetics courses and researches how to improve the impact of registered dietitian nutritionists. She is married and has two kids.
