Foundation FNCE® 5K

Join us for this great opportunity to unplug and get up and moving—and support the Foundation while you’re at it! Complete the virtual FNCE®5K on your own time frame and terms: indoor or outdoor, morning or evening, any activity you choose. Participants are encouraged to raise pledges, recruit colleagues and classmates and post pictures on social media using the hashtag #werundietetics.

Anyone who participates and raises money to benefit the Foundation during the event will be entered into a drawing for a free 2022 FNCE® registration. Sign up for the FNCE® 5K by September 10, 2021, to ensure you receive your t-shirt in time for the event. You can sign up for the FNCE® 5K when you register for the Food & Nutrition Conference & ExpoTM — or for those already registered for the conference, log into your registration profile and sign up there.

FNCE® 5K is for everyone! While strides are different among individuals, approximately 6,500 steps equals 5 kilometers, or 3.1 miles. According to activity-to-step conversions by NASA’s Starport Services—corporate wellness program of the Johnson Space Center—here are some rough estimates for the equivalent of 6,500 steps:

  • bicycling (leisurely): 56 minutes
  • bowling: 75 minutes
  • cross-country skiing: 28 minutes
  • dancing: 54 minutes
  • downhill skiing: 38 minutes
  • elliptical trainer: 32 minutes
  • frisbee: 72 minutes
  • gardening: 45 minutes
  • hiking: 38 minutes
  • jumping rope: 24 minutes
  • miniature golf: 72 minutes
  • raking leaves: 52 minutes
  • shooting hoops: 37 minutes
  • swimming (leisurely): 38 minutes
  • wheelchair use (manual): 65 minutes

Also, be sure to share your participation and fund raise with your family, friends and followers on social media by setting up a facebook or gofundme fundraiser, just like last year’s top fundraiser, Alyssa Frisby. All 5k participants who raise $50 or more on our behalf, will be entered into a drawing for a free 2022 FNCE registration in Orlando, Fla.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation is the only public charity dedicated exclusively to our profession, supporting nutrition and dietetics. Our Foundation invests in the current and future generation of food and nutrition practitioners, as the world’s largest provider of dietetic scholarships, at all levels of study and provides hundreds of opportunities each year to students who are pursuing their dreams to thrive in our profession. The Foundation does not receive any portion of member dues and is funded solely by donations. The success and impact of our programs are directly attributed to the generosity of our donors.
